Agote Federal Complex of Convicts

Agotes’s Federal Complex of Convicts is located in Mercedes, Buenos Aires, on an area assigned by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and has a total area of 183 hectares and a total capacity for 1.128 convicts.

Its design and construction required and exhaustive planning so that the Complex can answer to all of the established guidelines in the following Statutes:

  • National Constitution.
  • Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners of the United Nations
  • Law on the Execution of the Deprived Penalty of Liberty (Law N° 24.660)
  • Internal Communications Regulations (Decree N° 1136/97).
  • Regulation of Discipline for Interns (Decree N° 18/97).
  • Internal Regulations of Basic Modalities of Executions (Decree N° 396/99)
  • Resolution N° 2892 of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
  • Buenos Aires’s Building Code, which is also the current code in Mercedes.
     

It was also taken into account the need of auxiliary buildings and establishments, configured and organized in a way that provides protection to inmates and staff, had optimal security conditions and provide a space with dignified conditions of accommodation and work through which the rehabilitation of inmates is facilitated.
